It’s That Time of Year Again

“The man who is so run down that he needs a vacation can never adjust or reform himself in two weeks. What he really needs is to re-transform his life.” — Elbert Hubbard, Philistine: A Periodical of Protest, 1905

SunsetFor many, summer means vacation season. It might include packing the bags and taking a holiday with the kids. Maybe it is as simple as kicking back with friends or enjoying an outdoor concert. Or, perhaps it is enjoying a variety of outdoor activities in order to benefit from the long summer days.

While my husband and I haven’t planned a summer vacation yet, I have been consciously watching the summer sunsets off our back deck. We have enjoyed the colors in all of their splendor.

So, take advantage of this summer season; but, also heed the advice from the quote above. Don’t ‘over’ rely on your vacation to get you refreshed and re-energized. Look at what you are doing day in and day out and how that nurtures you and gives you the opportunity to be your best. Ask yourself:

• What’s really important? How can I spend more time doing that on a daily/weekly basis?
• How can I connect more frequently with friends and family?
• What adjustments do I have to make to live life to the fullest?

Don’t rely on your yearly vacation ritual to reduce the stress and demands of everyday life. Look to create your best life. Happy summer!
